The amusing story is often told of a mother who returned from her shopping to find her children playing with cute little skunks. Terrified, she screamed at the top of her voice, "Run, children, run!" Each child ran a different direction, and each with a skunk held tightly in his hands.

Perhaps that is the way we are prone to abandon sin. We may hear the warning to run from sin, but we each grab one or two that mean a lot to us and take them along. Our text presents the importance of completely abandoning sin.
