Anyone who has been a victim of crime, or close to someone who is a victim, knows that it is a demoralizing and humiliating experience. And these feelings do not dissipate after the event of the crime is past. Across the country, Crime Victim's Assistance programs are growing. These agencies provide emotional support and advocacy for victims of crime, especially in negotiating the legal process as the perpetrator is brought to trial and after. In most cases crime victims are left to cope on their own, with a legal system which affords them no rights.
