An article in the March 26, 2001, issue of U. S. News and World Report suggests that adults are suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder. Since 1965, the average news sound bite has shrunk from 42 seconds to just 8. The average network television ad has shrunk from 53 seconds to 25. Fifteen-second ads are now commonplace, and three-second ads are on the rise. The average office worker sends or receives 201 messages daily -- voice mail, e-mail, faxes, and an occasional Post-it Note. Cellphones, pagers, and handheld computers are always plugged in.
