Augustyn, a nursing home resident...

Augustyn, a nursing home resident I met while visiting there, tells this story from his childhood in Poland:
In his village, an old bachelor farmer fell afoul of the law, and eventually was sent away to a prison. He had no relatives that any of the villagers knew of, so his little plot of land reverted to the village. But the land had not been worked well for many years, and instead of grain and vegetables, it produced only weeds and stones.
