Back in the 1960s, Fuzzy Thurston, a Valparaiso University graduate, was playing left guard for Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers. The coach at Valpo invited his premier alumnus to speak at a banquet. Fuzzy began his speech, "It's really tough to be umble [sic] when you're great." It is very unlikely that Fuzzy was the first to speak that now oft repeated line. However, afterwards he did explain what he meant by it. He claimed you could take all the left guards playing peewee football and put them on a pile.
