Baruch (derived from the Hebrew word "baruk" meaning blessing) was the son of Neriah and the amanuensis of Jeremiah as is made clear by Jeremiah 36:4:
"Then Jeremiah called Baruch, the son of Neriah and Baruch wrote upon a scroll the dictation of Jeremiah and the words of the Lord which he had spoken to him."
The book of Baruch purports to have been written by Baruch with scholars placing its composition in Hebrew sometime during the first century and prior to the destruction of the Temple in 70.
