In Bechuanaland there lives a strange, almost mythical creature known as the "honey bird." Reliable sources state that when one of these birds spies a human being, it calls attention to itself by whistling. Africans recognize that the honey bird has located a tree containing honey made by wild bees. They follow the bird, fell the tree, and proceed to reap the benefit of the bird's tip-off. Following the harvest, the honey-bird swoops down from its place of safety to feast upon the comb and the young bee grubs.
