Being a slave to God paints various pictures for different people. At one end are the people who seem so unbending, so stiff to their pious actions and works righteousness. I remember one time as a mission pastor being enslaved to keeping records for the director of missions. Every night I would fill out the columns of calls made, telephone calls made, hospital calls made, meetings attended, sermons preached, funerals held, and so forth. It didn't seem to matter how diligent I was, I could never mount the numbers that some of my friends in other mission congregations could produce.
