Betty Lou taught piano to elementary school students for twenty years. She said her
students taught her as much about life as she taught them about piano. She pointed to the
children's behavior at the recital. She introduced each student, stated how long he or she
been playing, then named the piece the child would perform. Many children, however,
sitting on the piano bench waiting for her to finish her introduction, actually started to
play before she completed her final sentence.
She said their eagerness to get on with their playing was like the early Christians. Life here with Christ was good; yet, they wanted to get on with it. They could hardly wait for the next stage of their Christian life, like Paul the apostle, "I am hard pressed between the two: my desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better; but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you."
