Charles Krauthammer, in Time...

Charles Krauthammer, in Time, June 15, 1998, wrote that religion is no longer a conviction. He was reminded of this at a hospital where he was asked, "What is your religious preference?" Hospitals customarily ask so that they can properly notify the clergy if problems arise or if you die, not out of theological curiosity but for liability protection. In modern society, the fact is that, while you may have a religious preference, you had better not show much conviction.
