Charles Lamb was a noted nineteenth century English essayist, poet, and literary critic. When he was a small child, his sister Mary took him one day on a stroll through a cemetery. They began to read the inscriptions on the tombstones. Charles was fascinated with the accolades chiseled into the stones: "virtuous," "charitable," "beloved."
On their way out the gate, he looked up at his sister and asked, transparently, "But where are all the naughty people buried?"
