As children, and even as...
Illustration
As children, and even as adults, we love to frighten ourselves and one another. The child in the swing shouts, "Higher, Mommy, push me higher!" while the terrified squeals say the speed and height frighten him. A little older, children at camp beg for ghost stories around the evening fire, even if it means they will shiver in the woods going back to the cabins. From amusement park rides to Halloween haunted houses, we seek out opportunities to scare ourselves silly. But some frightening things are not fun, not even in our imaginations.
