The children laughed at her...

The children laughed at her when Sheila walked into church. Her shoes were dirty, her pants had a hole at the knee, and her shirt was too small. She felt humiliated: maybe it wasn't a good idea to come here. She turned to leave.
A woman behind her stopped her. "I'm Mary Jane. I don't believe I know you." Sheila felt herself blush and introduced herself. The pastor walked up the aisle to start the service.
