As children many of us...
Illustration
As children many of us made blood pacts with one another. We would write down our agreements and seal it with our blood - not much blood, to be sure, just a pin prick's worth. But even though not much blood was involved, the solemnity of the event was very real. We may not have been able to explain why sealing the covenant with blood was so serious, but if we could we probably would have said something like this: Blood is necessary for life. To lose blood is to risk losing your life. By putting our blood on that paper, we are putting our very lives on the line.
