William Douglas Home, a British playwright, once went to dinner with his wife at the home of a friend. As they were preparing to depart, the host said to Home's wife, "Thank you, Rachel, for a lovely dinner."

Home was confused. He said, "What do you mean?"

His spouse replied, "I brought it over from home. Their cook was off."
