A colleague confided, "It took three days of intent listening to understand exactly what my 82-year-old parents wanted to do. The time had arrived for them to leave their house. My gift to them was to keep them in charge of their living. I could gather helpful information and give them time to mull over the options. I could be their quiet cheerleader, rejoice at their decisions and invite them to grieve the changes as fully as possible.
