Before the completion of a new church, a cross had to be welded onto a steeple. There was a problem. The scaffolding was too short. A tall worker agreed to let the welder stand on his shoulders, and to hand up to him the molten hot lead. After the job was completed the tall worker came down slowly. As he reached the ground he fell over. His arms and shoulders were scarred with first-degree burns. As the welder was attaching the cross, the boiling lead had dropped down onto the tall man's shoulders. In spite of his suffering, he had made it possible for the cross to dominate the church.
