At the corner of West Grand Boulevard and the Lodge service drive, where Henry Ford Hospital stands, traffic is heavy and a steady stream of people move in and out of the inner-city hospital.
One day, on one side of the Lodge, a man was selling bouquets of roses to motorists stopping at the light. On the other side of the Lodge stood a homeless man with a sign, "Will work for food." In between them lay all the chasm of indifference.
