Dale, a novice carpenter, planned to make a desk that would carry him through his college years. He got a do-it-yourself book from the library and painstakingly followed the plans to make the desk. Despite a leg that was a bit shorter than the others (shims fixed that) and a drawer that didn't pull out too smoothly, Dale was proud of his handiwork. However, painted plywood didn't quite do it for Dale. He decided to add a nice simulated wood top. He had it cut at the lumberyard to fit exactly on his desktop and picked up some contact cement.
