David Gonzalez, in his New York Times column "About New York," once wrote about Father John Flynn of St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx. The neighborhood around the church has a long history of violence. Crack, guns, and death have been commonplace for years. Recently though, the neighborhood has improved. Perhaps, in no small way, because of Father Flynn. He has tried many different ways to reach out to the troubled youth of his parish.
