"As the day of a tree ..." wrote Isaiah. We generally think of deep roots, fruit bearing, and long life when we hear these words. One tree in particular demands notice: the Methuselah Tree, or Bristlecone Pine Tree. One Bristlecone Pine holds the distinction of being the oldest living thing on earth: 4,725 years! What is most remarkable is that this tree exists in the harsh conditions of the White Mountains of California. This region gets less than twelve inches of precipitation per year and the soil is rocky and low in nutrients.
