Denny was part of a church that met in a vacant store in a shopping center. The church started with four committed couples and soon expanded. Their focus was on people who did not already go to church -- commonly referred to as the "unchurched." The research Denny conducted suggested that many people are uncomfortable with going inside a "traditional" church. They are intimidated sometimes by the architecture. It was then that they decided to worship in a shopping center.
