The desire for security of person and property has triggered a dynamic new industry in our present violent society. At one time, the average person satisfied his need for security at a local hardware or lumber yard by purchasing a good lock or a chain-link fence. Now, however, the needs seem to have become more sophisticated as Tupperware parties have given way to home demonstrations of elaborate alarm systems, and there are catalogs and stores which feature nothing but security devices. At the same time, individuals buy more firearms to protect themselves against their armed neighbors.
