Divorce carries within it the pain which is its own punishment: the unraveling of a relationship thread by thread, cutting each tiny connection that once bound two people together. First there are the shared memories: The day we met, and the impressions we had of each other. The first date, first kiss, first pledge of love, each still bind the couple. The decision to marry, and the reactions of family members. How she looked in her wedding gown; how he looked as she approached down the aisle. The day she told him she was pregnant; the birth of children.
