Do you know someone who has studied the Christian faith, knows all the proper answers to the ways of God's love and forgiveness, yet does not feel loved, accepted, forgiven? Then, teach them to sing!
What does the prophet say? "... the Lord God is my strength and my song ... So, also, do many of the Psalms reflect the relationship of faith and singing.
We often overlook the crucial importance of singing in our experience. It was known to the Reformers. Luther wrote that the study of music was second only to the study of theology. And, when Geneva was besieged and every man was required to stand his turn at guard duty, John Calvin excused only one man from such duty. His name was Louis Bourgeois, the teacher of music to the children, and who composed "Old Hundreth," our doxology tune. A Methodist bishop once said more people had been "sung" into his church than came in any other way.
If you are unsure of your faith, learn to sing it. You will find "God is (not only) your strength (but also) your song."
