During his childhood and youth...

During his childhood and youth, Henry had often questioned his parents' motives in adopting him and his kid sister. He realized now what a challenge he must have been for them to raise. In fact, he had been such a rebellious kid, he had probably given them more than one reason to wonder why they had ever adopted him, too. Growing up, Henry had felt like a caged animal, seldom allowed to make decisions, protected from making mistakes. He hadn't understood then that his folks were motivated by their love for him. He'd felt like their slave, being told what to do and when to do it.
