Estrangements come easily. And quickly. Estrangements happen so often they become part of our language. We speak of the generation gap -- the gulf that exists between the ages, breaking communication. We speak of the gender gab -- the gulf that exists between the sexes, hindering understanding. We speak of the color barrier -- the obstacle that divides the races. We speak of the language barrier -- the obstacle that separates the national ties.
