Exhausted, Zeke collapsed on the sandy shore. He had been running for hours, finally coming to the end of his endurance. He wasn't running away -- he knew that wasn't possible; he couldn't "run away" from himself. But running seemed to help him deal with his grief; exhausting his body gave his mind physical pain on which to focus, relieving for a short time the intense emotional and spiritual pain he felt at losing Paula.
