In the face of overwhelming odds, Monica kept praying for her wayward son. She would not stop. Even though her son proved himself over and over again to be a lustful youth and an intellectual enemy of Christianity, she continued to pray for him and weep on behalf of her son before the throne of grace.

In an ardent conversation with her pastor asking that he go see her son and talk to him, the pastor finally said in exasperation, "Go your way, as sure as you live, it is impossible that the son of these tears should perish."
