The fifth graders in Sharon's class had watched news reports on television telling of the end of the Cold War. They had discussed the demolition of the Berlin Wall, the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the hope for the future. Today they were looking at pictures of old weapons systems and trying to invent peaceful uses for them. Troop carriers became high tech, heavily armored school buses. With the seats removed, they became very sturdy dump trucks to haul garbage for the waste management systems in their town.
