The following inscription is found on the grave of Dean Alford: "The inn of a traveler on the way to Jerusalem." The new Jerusalem, described by John in his revelation is pictured as a glorious place prepared by God for the redeemed. This theme is carried out in the following poem by an anonymous author.
Think of stepping on shore, and finding
it Heaven!
Of taking hold of a hand, and finding it
God's hand,
Of breathing new air, and finding it
celestial air,
Of feeling invigorated, and finding it
immortality,
