At a fort in a coastal town in France, a cannon was fired every day at five o'clock. A tourist was impressed with the accurancy of the commander who fired the cannon every day. He asked him "How do you keep your time so precise?" The commander answered "That's easy. Every day in the town the cathedral bell rings precisely at noon. I always set my watch by it."
So the tourist went to the priest at the cathedral. "How do you know precisely when it's noon?" he inquired. "That's easy," the priest said. "Every day at five sharp the cannon fires at the fort, I always set my watch by it."
Sometimes we think we have systems and timetables all figured out, but in fact we only rely on established ways of thinking. Jesus warns against it, saying no one knows the day or the hour.
