Four days before Christmas, in 1170 A.D., Thomas Becket fell dying before the altar at Canterbury. He spoke those last words, "Into thy hands, I commend my spirit." Nearly 400 years later, Bishop Ridley, chained to the stake, watched the flames leap about him and exclaimed, "In manus taus, domine, commendo spiritum meum." In the midst of anything and everything, God still lives; God still cares; God still reigns. -- Keller
