Freedom - that's what the fourth of July was all about. Independence day was a day to celebrate the gift of freedom given to us by forefathers who worked hard and long, who fought and died that we might live in freedom. For citizens of the U.S.A. this is obvious.
St. Paul didn't know George Washington or Thomas Jefferson or Martin Luther King, Jr., but he knew what it meant to be a freedom-fighter. He, too, struggled and suffered and bled for the sake of freedom -- the precious gift of the freedom of the Gospel won by the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.
