A Friend told about finding the perfect gift for a family member who was a camping enthusiast and a practical joker. The gift was a can full of air labelled "Instant Water." The instructions directed the thirsty camper to open the can and add water. While the gift was impractical, it did succeed in making a memorable point.
Impatience is not a new problem for Christians, though it may appear increasingly hard to deal with in our fast-paced society. A colleague remarked, "I'm not impressed with those fancy eating establishments that ask customers to fax in their orders; what I'm looking forward to is a decent burger and fries by return fax!"
Patience is not an instant commodity. It takes time to develop patience in our lives and suffering in our lives, it is a good idea to stop and think about who we consider to be examples of patience, models for our own lives. The models we value and the attitudes we choose to have in life often make the difference between developing patience and spinning our wheels impatiently.
"God give me patience right now!" is probably more effective as a bumper sticker than a prayer.
