The Gospel appointed for the Sixth Sunday of Easter is a continuation of the readings for the previous Sundays from the Fourth Gospel. No doubt, these readings are the favorites, or among the favorites, of most Christians. The Gospel of John is dear to Christians, because it contains the longer sayings of our Lord. Those were the sentiments of Martin Luther, who said that if all the rest of Scripture were lost to him, John's gospel would be enough. In fact, he had special praise for the section from which this Gospel was taken.
