Harold had been a hard-working and valued member of our church board for four years, always to be counted on when a job needed doing. As a "preacher's kid," he understood well that the church had material needs. But now it was apparent that he was finding his work as a board member to be a burden. He complained at one meeting that the board's business was "unspiritual," and shortly thereafter began to turn down requests for help, to the surprise and annoyance of the rest of the members.
