In his book, Forty Ways to Say I Love You, James Bjorge writes the following:
A great homerun hitter comes to the plate with the score tied, a man on first, and no one out. He looks down to the third base coach who flashes the signal to bunt. The homerun hitter squares around, lays down a bunt, and while the runner on first advances safely to second the homerun batter is thrown out at first. In the official scorebook that is noted as a sacrifice and it is a play that is used for the benefit of the whole team.
Too many married couples look at marriage as a win/lose situation where they act like opposing players instead of two people on the same team. When both members of the team are willing to sacrifice for each other, just as Christ sacrificed himself for the church, then the team wins.
