I once visited with a woman in the hospital who was suffering from lung cancer. Her daughter ordered her to quit smoking, and yet, every opportunity she got she lit up a cigarette. She knew that she shouldn't be doing this, but as she confessed to me, "I just can't help it." Her husband was upset with her, as were her children, and she was angry with herself. How could she overcome her addiction to tobacco? Saint Paul had a similar experience. He was well aware of the inner conflict that rages within us all. And how can we be victorious over our desires to do what is wrong? "Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:24b-25). -- Frank
