If "why?" is the great "child question," then perhaps, as illustrated in Habakkuk, the great "adult question" is "how long?" How long until morning for the one suffering intense illness or how long until I feel better for the mourner, are not idle questions at all. For one victimized by injustice the question is even more poignant. For the prophets of any age in the manner of Isaiah, Jeremiah, or Habakkuk this question haunts them --especially when justice seems slow or when speaking out in God' way brings ostracism and shame.
