"If you love me, you will keep my commandments," says Jesus. The Austrian
psychologist, Viktor Frankl, was a man who knew how to keep God's commandments,
and paid a heavy price for his obedience.
As the Nazi persecution of the Jews increased, Frankl had the opportunity to go to America. He wrestled with the question of whether to accept the invitation. What was most troubling to him was the prospect of leaving his parents behind.
One day, Viktor's father -- knowing nothing of his son's inner turmoil -- brought him a piece of marble from a bombed-out synagogue. It contained a fragment of Hebrew script: Honor your father and mother.
In that moment, Frankl had the answer to his dilemma. He would stay. Eventually, both he and his parents were sent to concentration camps. His parents died in the camps, but Frankl lived to see the liberation of Auschwitz by the allies. He went on to become the author of Man's Search for Meaning, a book that has helped millions.
