For the "initiated" baseball comes as close to "religion" as anything in their experience, and a World Series championship would be like going to heaven. You can imagine the frustration of the fans in Boston who have been denied such an experience since 1918. Their best hope was in their star pitcher, Roger Clemens, a 21-game winner.
