It was Gandhi who said...

It was Gandhi who said that "freely accepted suffering is the greatest force the world has ever known." Gandhi knew this power himself as he often fasted in his efforts to free India from British rule. He lived as one of the common people. He suffered alongside them as they nonviolently worked for the freedom of the nation. Highly educated and at home with the upper class, he did not hesitate to empty himself, experience suffering, and even offer his own life. The way of suffering is the way of joy.
