It was more the brazenness...

It was more the brazenness of youth than wisdom which caused a young pastor to confront the fifty-year-old alcoholic in his congregation. The man knew he had a problem. Why hadn't he sought God's help in overcoming it? "Because I ought to be able to take care of it on my own," the man had snapped. "I know A.A. says we need to admit our problem and seek the help of a high power, but I just can't see that. I can handle it myself." More times than people could count, he had declared himself cured. He would then stay sober for, at most, two months before falling heavily off the wagon.
