Jeremiah had become aware of a plot against his life. He was angry and frustrated, and would like the plotters to receive their just desserts. He is no longer an idealist. He has been disillusioned with the establishment. There is a saying, "There are no old idealists." In attempting to make this a better world, most of us at one time or another find ourselves thrown up against the wall of human nature. We cannot accomplish what we thought we could accomplish, and we are not appreciated for what we can accomplish.
