Jesus' purpose was not to condemn, but to save, but the reaction of people to the light that he brings is what determines their end. In the ocean are places where the water is so deep that no light can penetrate its depths, and the creatures that have evolved there live in darkness and cold. To be brought up to levels of the sea where they could feel the warmth and light of the sun would mean their death. For human beings who live in darkness and cold, the light of Christ threatens a similar death.
