Jesus' washing the disciples' feet...
Illustration
Jesus' washing the disciples' feet was the quintessential act of humility. While his followers find this a difficult act to follow, occasionally someone with a lot to lose actually accomplishes it. An example was the German composer, Johannes Brahms. At a dinner party his host decided to heap honors on him with a toast. The wine was poured and the glasses were raised. Said the host, "To the most famous composer." Brahms saw what was coming and interposed hastily, "Quite right. Here's to Mozart."
