John tells us that "the Word became flesh and dwelt in our midst." In Greek, the verb "to dwell" is derived from the noun for "tent." The inference here is that "to dwell among us" literally means "to pitch a tent in our midst." Is this not the job of the church? I sit in my office and see Mrs. Smith (not her real name) going through the garbage dumpster. She has a serious drinking problem and is looking for beer cans which have a drop or two left.
