John Wanamaker, American merchant and liberal giver to
Christ's causes, journeyed to China to determine how well the
money he had given for missions was being used. In one village he
noticed an elderly gentleman behind a crude plow that was pulled
by an ox yoked together with a young man. Through his
interpreter, Mr. Wanamaker asked for the story behind this
strange scene. The old man told him that they were members of
the village church which needed a building for worship. They and
