John was co-owner and manager of our local department store. For the fifth year in a row the store had shown a significant increase in sales. In light of the current recession, the store's increase in sales was amazing.

John's partner was elated. He thought that the store had it made. He was looking forward to taking it easy. When he said as much to John, John disagreed.
